Roniel is a writer/director whose work spans film, television, stage, and literature. He is currently a WGAE Screenwriting Fellow, working under the guidance of Tony Kushner and Pamela Koffler. He's also an Academy Nicholl Fellowship Semifinalist, an O'Neill Semifinalist, the winner of the HUMANITAS NEW VOICES grant for emerging writers, and a winner of the inaugural Black List/Austin Television Festival script competition. His first produced pilot was an official selection at Series Fest, and his scripts have been recognized at the Austin Film Festival, the LGBT Glitter! Oklahoma Film Festival, the Creative World Awards, the Emerging Screenwriters screenplay competition, and The Unproduced Table Read, a weekly podcast featuring Hollywood's best unproduced screenplays.
Raised in the suburbs of Maryland, Roniel was a husky kid who developed a misconstrued opinion of himself as “cool” because his father was the rabbi and he knew the code to the synagogue office. Closeted for most of his life, Roniel’s life experiences have inspired him to write about outsiders and overlooked characters pursuing their dreams. Quirkier facts include being photographed with his doppelganger for an exhibit on lookalikes, and being his own first cousin (you think it’s impossible...). In his free time, Roniel loves going to the theatre, creating monthly music playlists, and unabashedly sporting white Vans
